Late September held the crown jewel of the semester for our Castle Rock climbing class. Students embarked on a climbing trip to Lime Creek, a sub-alpine sport climbing destination near the town of Eagle, Colorado. The fall foliage and clear, blue skies set a majestic backdrop for a weekend full of new skills, campfire stories, and tasty meals in the mountains. As an added bonus, there wasn’t a soul in sight for the entire duration of the trip. Students learned anchor-building principles, crag etiquette, and proper lead belaying technique. Towards the end of the trip, students even had the opportunity to do their first lead climbs. The weather could not have been more perfect for a weekend free from technology and the distractions of the city. Highlights from the trip included first leads, making fresh guacamole, and watching a bull moose from camp. We are excited for more trips like Lime Creek during our upcoming Spring semester!
